Panama City beach flags might be Yellow with Purple OR Single Red depending on where you are on the beach.
SO…check the flag where you are before you go in the water today.
Why are the flags on PCB beaches sometimes different colors?
The beach flags on PCB beaches can be different colors for a few reasons including:
- The flag status changes mid-day and it takes a while to get to all the flags
- The city of Panama City Beach officials and the Bay County Sheriff’s office elect to fly different colors because the conditions are different. (The city Fire Department is responsible for flags between beach access entrances 24-76 which includes 28 flags, not counting private flags). Bay County is responsible for the rest.
- Private flags may fly city or county at their discretion.

Always remember that you have to check the actual flag at the beach before entering the water! Remember to always swim with caution and, an absence of flags DOES NOT mean the water is safe.
Depending on what end of the beach they start on, it can sometimes be a few hours before the flags are changed on this end of the beach.
