Each year on Memorial Day, veteran and nature enthusiast, David Bulger, leads participants on 22 mile barefoot walk through the nature trails of the Conservation Park in Panama City Beach, Fl. This event was created to continue to shine light on the increasing mental health challenges this country faces, and how our military veterans are often at the forefront of this epidemic. When the strongest amongst us have suicide rates reaching 20-22 a day, actions and discussions need to occur. This is our contribution; we walk slowly through nature, connecting both ourselves and others, one step at a time.
~~~
* Start time is 6am. There will be a brief discussion of tracking your walk and navigating the trails, a moment of silence, and then the walking begins.
* Please bring enough food, water, bug spray, sunscreen, and sun wear to make it through at least a 12 hour day, even if you only intend on walking a few miles (you never know where the trail will lead you).
* There’s no entry fee, prize money to be had, or suggested donations. The concept is to bring together those affected by mental health or suicide, especially those involving military members, spreading awareness to our problems as well as available solutions.
* While it’s not necessary to complete any distance, as you may decide to leave after the moment of silence and a brief walk, those who complete 22 miles barefoot will receive an official Barefoot 22 patch. Only 8 individuals in 5 years have completed this feet 👣
Thank you to all who support this cause, themselves, and others 💚
